WOUNDED NATURE,

HEALED

“Wounded nature” (damaged nature) and “Healed nature” (restored nature) describe processes of harm and recovery.

“Wounded nature” refers to areas and landscape elements affected by human activity (pollution, deforestation, intensive agriculture, urbanization) or natural disasters where ecosystems have been disrupted.

“Healed nature” refers to areas where nature is given back control to increase biodiversity, resilience to climate change, and self-sufficiency.

The paintings by Etienne Jammaers zoom in on the moment where wounded nature begins its journey toward this healing.
